Howard Mason at Haskin Park

Officially unofficial

Howard Mason

Writer, speaker, neighborhood voice, and the unofficial Mayor of Haskin Park.

About

Howard Mason is a 70-year-old writer, motivational speaker, and beloved neighborhood presence whose life story bridges Chicago street realism and Colorado perspective. Raised on the South Side of Chicago, Howard brought that directness, warmth, and lived wisdom with him when he moved to Boulder at 20.

Over the years, he’s become a storyteller in the truest sense: someone who doesn’t just talk, but connects. Around Haskin Park, he’s earned a reputation as its unofficial mayor, a title that says as much about his spirit as it does about his place in the community.

Stories, reflections, neighborhood wisdom, and the occasional hard-earned truth from Haskin Park and beyond.
